General Guidelines
  • All of us, Stony Brook staff, students and faculty, are working together to keep each other safe while we pursue our goals. For University life to function in Fall 2021, we must all adhere to the the rules and guidelines set out in University policies; look to Stronger Together for more info.
  • In short: only come to class if you are feeling well! Info regarding make-up labs is on your course website.
How to get to class
  • The Physics Building is on the West end of the main academic mall. Here is a supply of Maps. Coming from the LIRR train station you will see this view. From the academic mall, find the sculpture of an Umbilic Torus and you will have this view.
  • All introductory physics lab classes are on the A Level of Physics (ground is PL for Plaza and there is an M for maintenance level before A). Two elevators are in the NE corner of the building. Please allow students who need the elevator to have preferred access.
  • Stairs are in all 4 corners of the Physics Building 1.
  • All introductory lab classes meet in rooms off the two, central, North-South corridors. A-116 to A-121 are off the corridor nearest the elevators (and recommended stairways); A-126 to A-130 are off the corridor which is farther from the elevators. You'll find it!!
  • Bathrooms are on the walkway to the Math Tower. Hand Sanitizer stations are wall-mounted in several places on A level. Hand-washing or hand sanitizing is strongly advised before entering the classroom.
Working in Lab
  • Please go to the lab room which is assigned to your lab section (you may be re-directed. Look for signs). Each TA will work with two sections, usually in one room but split into two rooms for some labs. There will be an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant (UGTA) to help out.
  • You will work with a partner, two of you at a lab bench (the rooms are back to normal occupancy for Fall 2021!). There are acrylic dividers between benches.
  • No food or drink may be consumed in lab.
  • Need a break? Take one!!! Just remember that as of teh start of Fall 2021, masks are required at (nearly) all times inside campus buildings. When you are ready to return to lab, come back!
  • Please consider hand-washing or sanitizing upon leaving class.

A Level of Physics can also be reached from Floor 1 of the Math Tower. There are 2 elevators and stairs in Math.

Tentative! We ALL hope that this requirement can be relaxed. Look to guidance from the University.
